Chief Science and Technology Officer at the UK National Nuclear Laboratory
Fiona is the Chief Science and Technology Officer at the UK National Nuclear Laboratory and has over twenty five years nuclear industry experience working primarily within operations, technology and strategic roles within the UK and internationally. Through her previous role in leading the Nuclear Innovation and Research Office she led on the provision of strategic nuclear advice into the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. She is a chartered Chemist and Engineer with a PhD in Chemistry from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Chemistry and of the UK Nuclear Institute. She has an MBA from Manchester Business School.
Fiona is a board member of the Nuclear Institute and is the immediate past chair of the UK’s Nuclear Skills Strategy Group; the strategic body that oversees UK nuclear sector skills requirements. Fiona recently served as a member of Euratom’s Science and Technology Committee. She is currently a member of the Office of Nuclear Regulation Independent Advisory Panel, Idaho National Laboratory's Nuclear Science and Technology Advisory Committee and CEA Energy Division’s Scientific Advisory Committee. She serves as a member of the U.K. Nuclear Industry Council and is a Member of the board of trustees of the Nuclear Institute.
Fiona regularly represents the UK at a number of international meetings, and provides keynote / plenary speeches at a variety of international nuclear conferences. Currently she is vice chair of the OECD NEA’s Steering Committee and Bureau.
